I’m horrible. I started this post almost 2 weeks ago and am just now getting around to publishing it. Every time I get going on a rhythm for the blog, I inevitable loose it. Anyways, here is what Emmett has been up to in month 7…
My boy turned 7 months this past Tuesday. My word. He has changed so so much this past month, but more specifically, these past 2 weeks. When he turned 6 months I started reading up on babies and development and Emmett wasn’t really doing anything that the books said he should be doing. At first I thought I had permanently damaged him by running with him in the BOB a tinge too early. I have quickly come to realize I have NOTHING to worry about. The 6 month development pages all said that by 6-7 months babies are babbling, blowing raspberries, sometimes crawling, rolling to get to things if not crawling and passing toys from one had to the other. Well, the ONE thing that Emmett had been doing very consistently was passing toys. His dexterity is great in my opinion. But the other stuff wasn’t really happening. He’d roll from time to time but then wouldn’t roll for a week. I don’t think I’ve ever heard him babble and blowing raspberries, what’s that!? (I know very well what it is, just wasn’t seeing it happen from my son). The development pages also said he should be sitting up with his hands. That he was also doing. Anyways, his development has blown up over the past few weeks. My oh my. He is rolling EVERYWHERE, he babbles constantly, he is blowing raspberries (although not well), he is sitting up completely on his own and he becomes more and more curious daily.
He seems to have zero interest in crawling which is JUST fine with mommy. I could care less if he doesn’t ever crawl. It’s nice having him still somewhat immobile. He really really really enjoys his BOB time too.
In the beginning it was iffy. We kept plugging away at it because, let’s be honest, he didn’t have a choice. He now takes his morning naps in the BOB. This allows me to always run at least 7 miles but if I want to continue on, I most certainly can. He is just very content in there. I’m not sure if it’s the cold air or if he is just really comfy in there but he seems to like it well enough. He also had his first overnight with his meme and has since been over there for another overnight! He seems to be sleeping through the night pretty consistently now for about 11 hour stretches. We had a rough week last week while in KC for the Holidays and I’m not sure if it’s because he was in a strange place or if there was actually something else going on but whatever it was he’s over it. He hasn’t woken up at night once this week. He seems to take 2 naps a day. One in the morning in the BOB and then another one in the afternoon lasting anywhere from 20 minutes to 3 hours. Right now he’s going on 3 hours and I’m not sure what I’m doing right or wrong everyday. I never can plan a good long nap. When I do, it only blows up in my face. We’ve also started going to book babies once a week at the local library.
These classes are great because they are free but they also expose Emmett to reading, singing songs, playing with other children from 6-23 months old and gets me out to meet other moms. It’s not a long class but he seems to have a great time when we go.
We’ve also been pretty consistently feeding Emmett solids at least once a day. He’s been exposed to a number of different foods. I’ve made my own a few times but also given him a few store bought foods. He has yet to let rice cereal pass his lips. I’m not sure if that’s good or bad but from what I’ve read it’s just a filler anyways and there really is no nutritional value to giving babies rice cereal. In the beginning we were doing a lot of pumpkin, bananas and applesauce. I have now started including green beans, prunes, carrots, avocados, butternut squash, egg yolks, and peas.
I made a huge batch of quinoa the other night and have been mixing quinoa with things like pumpkin and squash. He seems to be enjoying that a lot. Last week my mom made too much oatmeal because she thought it was wheat berries so she gave us the oatmeal since she doesn’t eat it. I tried sneaking oatmeal into his green beans but he quickly caught on and sucked the green beans up while leaving the oats in his mouth. After talking to other moms with children Emmett’s age, I have discovered that most babies his age are pretty picky eaters. We are lucky because Emmett will pretty much eat anything that is shoveled into his mouth.
He also now has 2 little teeth! This may also help him start eating whole foods rather than purees 🙂
I can honestly say that I’m absolutely loving being home with my little guy. This is so far the best month yet. It just keeps getting better and better. This little guy makes us laugh daily and brings smiles and laughs to everyone who he meets. He is developing such a big personality and I can’t believe how much he learns and changes in a day. Everything is new and exciting to him and he’s just so curious. I’m so in love with this baby it hurts. I can’t even begin to fathom what we have to look forward to. We are so blessed and are so thankful for this tiny human.
